Consultants as Carriers of
Management Knowledge
historical and
comparative perspectives
Edited by Matthias Kipping,
University of Reading and Lars Engwall, Uppsala University
There is growing interest in
the role of consultants and different kinds of management knowledge. The purpose of this
volume is to examine how the consulting industry emerged and developed as a 'carrier' of
management knowledge. In particular the editors and contributors analyse how the role of
consultant has evolved in the 20th century, and look at the influence of American ideas in
different European contexts.
